Recovery Road by Blake Nelson

Recovery Road by Blake Nelson
Release Date: March 1, 2011
Age Group: Young Adult
Pages: 320

Summary: From acclaimed author Blake Nelson, the story of girl meets boy...in rehab.
Madeline is sent away to Spring Meadows to help with a drinking and rage problem she has. It's a pretty intense place, but there is the weekly movie night in town--where Madeline meets Stewart, who's at another rehab place nearby. They fall for each other during a really crazy time in their lives. Madeline gets out and tries to get back on her feet, waiting for Stewart to join her. When he does, though, it's not the ideal recovery world Madeline dreamed of. Both of them still have serious problems. And Stewart's are only getting worse....

My Thoughts: We are introduced to Madeline aka Maddie who is in rehab for drinking and drugs. We learn from the get go what she's going through, how hard it is for her, and that she just doesn't care at first. We meet her friend Trish whose also in rehab. Trish gets out first so Maddie has to go through the rest alone except she's not alone. She meets a boy named Stewart who is also in rehab down the road. They start to see more of each other and start to develop feelings for each other! One of the rules in rehab is you aren't supposed to date each other.

Maddie gets out and waits for Stewart to get out. He moves fairly close to her and they see eachother every once in a while. The book is split up into parts so you can get to see what both Maddie and Stewart go through in the upcoming year. A lot of events happen throughout the year. I'll stop there. If you want to know more or what happens, read it.

Overall: I enjoyed reading Recovery Road but I didn't love it. I felt like it was kind of dragged out a bit. I enjoyed the first part of the book more than the last. I liked Stewart at the beginning but by the end I wasn't too fond of him.

Cover: The cover is neat. Its really creative, especially all the pills on the front!

Deadly Cool by Gemma Halliday

Deadly Cool by Gemma Halliday
Release Date: October 11, 2011
Publisher: HarperTeen
Age Group: Young Adult
Pages: 320

Summary:  DEADLY COOL, in which a sixteen-year-old finds out that her boyfriend was cheating on her with the president of the chastity club; when she goes to confront the cheaters, she finds the girl dead instead and now must solve the murder.

My Thoughts: We are introduced to Hartley who is dating Josh. She's a virgin and wants to stay that way for a while. So Josh looks elsewhere. He ends up having sex with the leader of the Chastity Club. Ironic much?

Hartley goes to Josh's house to confront him and ends up finding the chastity leader dead. Whose the number one suspect by her classmates and the police? Josh of course.  Hartley and her friend Sam set out on a mission to prove his innocence. Yes, she's furious he cheated on her but she still wants to prove his innocence. They team up with a new boy, Chase. He is the editor of the school newspaper and underneath his goth looks, he's actually kind of cute.

With the detective watching Hartley's every move, it's hard to come up with clues but she does it.

I really enjoyed Deadly Cool. It was a bit mystery, a bit high school, and a bit funny. There were a lot of laugh out loud moments that I would find myself chuckling too. With more suspects than she knows what to do with, she knows she just has to find the real killer. Who could it possibly be?

Overall: Honestly, I really enjoyed Deadly Cool. My review is short because I don't want to give spoilers away on this one! One major spoiler could ruin the whole book! It was a book that kept me up late at night reading. It was fun. It was sweet. I loved all the characters and I loved reading about Hartley and Josh, even though he was a douche for cheating on her. I also liked Sam and Chase and all the other classmates we had the chance to meet. I recommend this book for anyone who likes a light breezy fun read.

Cover: Love it! Very fitting, especially the ipod earbuds. I also like how big and blue her eyes look.

Win The Shifter (Healing Wars #1)---CLOSED

Summary: Nya is an orphan struggling for survival in a city crippled by war. She is also a Taker—with her touch, she can heal injuries, pulling pain from another person into her own body. But unlike her sister, Tali, and the other Takers who become Healers' League apprentices, Nya's skill is flawed: She can't push that pain into pynvium, the enchanted metal used to store it. All she can do is shift it into another person, a dangerous skill that she must keep hidden from forces occupying her city. If discovered, she'd be used as a human weapon against her own people.

Rumors of another war make Nya's life harder, forcing her to take desperate risks just to find work and food. She pushes her luck too far and exposes her secret to a pain merchant eager to use her shifting ability for his own sinister purposes. At first Nya refuses, but when Tali and other League Healers mysteriously disappear, she's faced with some difficult choices. As her father used to say, principles are a bargain at any price; but how many will Nya have to sell to get Tali back alive?

Win Vesper-CLOSED

Summary: Emily Webb is a geek. And she’s happy that way. Content hiding under hoodies and curling up to watch old horror flicks, she’s never been the kind of girl who sneaks out for midnight parties. And she’s definitely not the kind of girl who starts fights or flirts with other girls’ boyfriends. Until one night Emily finds herself doing exactly that . . . the same night one of her classmates—also named Emily—is found mysteriously murdered.

The thing is, Emily doesn’t know why she’s doing any of this. By day, she’s the same old boring Emily, but by night, she turns into a thrill seeker. With every nightfall, Emily gets wilder until it’s no longer just her personality that changes. Her body can do things it never could before: Emily is now strong, fast, and utterly fearless. And soon Emily realizes that she’s not just coming out of her shell . . . there’s something much bigger going on. Is she bewitched by the soul of the other, murdered Emily? Or is Emily Webb becoming something else entirely— something not human?
As Emily hunts for answers, she finds out that she’s not the only one this is happening to—some of her classmates are changing as well. Who is turning these teens into monsters—and how many people will they kill to get what they want?
