Summary: Everyone has secrets.
Even best friends.
Swirling black descends like ravens, large enough to block the glow of the streetlights. A dull roar starts like a train on the 'L', a far-away rumbling that grows louder as it pulls closer, until it's directly overhead and you feel it in your chest, except this doesn't pass you by. Verity, white-faced and eyes blazing, shouts through the din, "Run, Mo!"
Mo Fitzgerald knows about secrets. But when she witnesses her best friend's murder, she discovers Verity was hiding things she never could have guessed. To find the answers she needs and the vengeance she craves, Mo—quiet, ordinary, unmagical Mo—will have to enter a world of raw magic and shifting alliances. And she'll have to choose between two very different, equally dangerous guys—protective, duty-bound Colin and brash, mysterious Luc. One wants to save her, one wants to claim her. Which would you choose?

My Thoughts: Yeah, what can I say about this? When I first saw it, I wasn't too interested. The cover really didn't draw me in and I never even read the description. Usually I always read book descriptions but this one, I just kind of passed on. I finally decided to give it a try after a friend recommended it to me. And boy am I glad I did.

We are introduced to Mo aka Maura who spends a lot of time with her best friend Verity. Her best friend has been gone for the summer but comes back to spend senior year with Mo. They go out on the town and her best friend is murdered, right in front of her eyes. Mo wakes up in the hospital and first meets Luc. Luc was a friend of Verity's we come to find out. There is more to his story than what we first know.

Mo has been brought up to be a good girl, to stay out of trouble, and be the complete opposite of her father, who is in prison. She does her homework, doesn't party, and is quiet.

Mo's uncle is associated with the mob so everyone assumes the attack was meant for Mo and the mob was after her to murder her.

But of course there is another thing going on. Verity was involved in some pretty insane stuff. Come to find out, she was a part of a prophecy bigger than Mo could ever even imagine. Mo's left with quilt, curiosity, and doesn't understand how her best friend could keep secrets from her.

Mo spends the whole book trying to figure out more about Verity's situation and what to do about it. There are a few guys thrown into the mix too. First, there is Luc who knew Verity and was tied to her. Now he's got quite a link going on with Mo. Next, there is Collin. Sweet Collin, who was hired by her uncle to be her new bodyguard.

There were some sweet moments sprinkled in the novel with both guys. I'm torn between them both. They both bring out something charming in Mo. I also liked how Luc called her mouse and Collin called her kid. So cute.

Torn was a really great novel. It was way more than I imagined it was going to be. It had funny parts, it had sad parts, it was addicting and a real page turner.

I can't wait to read the next book in this series!

Overall: I really enjoyed reading Torn. It was somewhat magical.  Of course there was a love triangle. I have a hard time classifying it as a love triangle really, it was just "different."  Torn was a captivating book and I'm glad I gave it a chance. You should too.

Cover: I'm not a big fan of the cover but its ok. I do the like the purpleness of it. Nothing fancy, but not completely dull either.

What I'd Give It:
