Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
Release Date: November 15, 2011
Publisher: HarperCollins
Age Group:  Young Adult
Pages: 352
Summary: Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war-- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

In this electrifying debut, Tahereh Mafi presents a world as riveting as The Hunger Games and a superhero story as thrilling as The X-Men. Full of pulse-pounding romance, intoxicating villainy, and high-stakes choices, Shatter Me is a fresh and original dystopian novel—with a paranormal twist—that will leave readers anxiously awaiting its sequel.

My Thoughts: Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! Shatter Me is definitely earth shattering! It was amazing! One of the best debuts I've read this year.

We are introduced to Juliette who hasn't touched anyone in more than 264 days. Her touch is deadly, she can kill someone just by touching them. Juliette has been locked up and thrown around for a long time. When she was younger, she made a mistake and has been punished for it ever since. It was an accident. She didn't mean to hurt anyone.

For 264 days, Juliette has spent time in solitary confinement, put into a cell to waste away by The Reestablishment because society thinks she is a monster.

Within pages of opening the book, Juliette gets a new cell mate. He's a boy!!! His name is Adam and he is swoonworthy!  He has tattoos and is hot!

Adam and Juliette get to know each other by spending time in the cell together. Their chemistry is amazing and I found myself falling for the blue eyed hottie pretty quick.    I loved how they talked, or didn't talk. I loved how they could relate to each other just by sitting next to each other. I love how they genuinely cared about each other from the get go.

After several weeks we learn that Adam is not who we think he is. He's someone pretty different. He's no ordinary prisoner.

Juliette ends up getting yanked out of her prison and taken into Warner's care. I loved how Tahereh Mafi portrayed Warner. While Juliette considered her abilities a curse, Warner knew her power and wanted to use it to further The Reestablishment’s cause.

Juliette is in a pretty tricky position. Is her power worth using it in the Reestablishment and joining Warner and living her live in more luxury than what she's used too? Or is it worth it to fight against him and be jerked around?

Juliette and Adam have this undeniable attraction between them. From the first moment they laid eyes on each other, I knew this could either be really beautiful or really tragic. There were some pretty sexy scenes throughout the book too. Steamy!

Shatter Me was something more than amazing. Amazing isn't even a strong enough word. I loved Mafi's writing style. I loved how she could be so detailed and make everything truly beautiful. Her words flowed so perfectly and each word was so beautiful. Everything was explained in such detail, I was on the edge of my seat imagining the snow, the birds, everything Juliette spoke of.

I also loved the strike through sentences. Certain sentences were crossed out and it made the book more unique.

Shatter Me was one of the best debuts I've read this year. I am so anxious for the next book to come out! It was everything I was expecting and I truly fall in love with it! I love you Adam! I adore you Juliette!

Overall: Oh my freaking gosh! You need to read this book soon! Truly beautiful, amazing, magnificent, wonderful, thrilling, everything I wanted it to be! I loved all the characters, even the side characters. I love how Juliette has a conscious, I love how brave she is. I loved how Adam fits into everything. I love who he is truly is. Shatter Me is an addicting read from page one. You are bound to be sucked right into the story. And I hope you'll fall in love with it, just as much as I did.

Shatter Me in one word::: BEAUTIFUL!

Cover: Love it! I love the black and white background, as if its almost shattering. I love the way her hands are on her hips as if shes in control. I love her white puffy dress. Even the expression on her face is memorable. I love this cover!

I just didn't find myself all out in love with this one. I enjoyed it and thought it was a newer concept in teen fiction but I just didn't love it. The writing got to me at certain times and it is a little bit like X-men.

I'm glad you loved it though, seems like lately you are reviewing books that you feel in love with.

Thanks for the great review.:)
