Summary: Within the walls of Baalboden, beneath the shadow of the city's brutal leader, Rachel Adams has a secret. While other girls sew dresses and obey their male Protectors, Rachel knows how to survive in the wilderness and deftly wield a sword. When her father, Jared, fails to return from a courier mission and is declared dead, the Commander assigns Rachel a new Protector, her father's apprentice, Logan--the same boy Rachel declared her love for two years ago, and the same one who handed her heart right back to her. Left with nothing but a fierce belief in her father's survival, Rachel decides to escape and find him herself. But treason against the Commander carries a heavy price, and what awaits her in the Wasteland could destroy her.

At nineteen, Logan McEntire is many things. Orphan. Outcast. Inventor. As apprentice to the city's top courier, Logan is focused on learning his trade so he can escape the tyranny of Baalboden. But his plan never included being responsible for his mentor's impulsive daughter. Logan is determined to protect her, but when his escape plan goes wrong and Rachel pays the price, he realizes he has more at stake than disappointing Jared.

As Rachel and Logan battle their way through the Wasteland, stalked by a monster that can't be killed and an army of assassins out for blood, they discover romance, heartbreak, and a truth that will incite a war decades in the making.

My Thoughts:  Why in the world did I wait so long to read this one? Shame Shame Shame! I loved it!

We are introduced to Rachel whose dad Jared is a courier. He’s the best and he is good at it. Her father also had an apprentice named Logan. Logan was super cute! He was smart yet strong and also so adorable.

Then there is Oliver. Oliver is like a father figure to Rachel and Logan. He cares for them deeply.

When Jared doesn't return from the Wasteland after retrieving a package, he is declared dead and Rachel gets a new protector; Logan.

The commander of the place threatens Rachel and tells her she has to fulfill what her father didn't. To find this package and bring it back to him.  He wants whatever is inside.

Rachel has a lot ahead of her. She’s in a real bind. He threatens Logan’s safety and Rachel would do anything for Logan.

What else can I say? I loved this one. I laughed and cried both. I wish I would have read it sooner but now I don’t have to wait so long until the next one comes out. I can’t wait. I loved Logan so much. And Rachel was so tough and she had such fiery in her. I’m so happy I finally gave it a chance. I loved the love story part of it, but I also loved the actual story.

I loved the characters and the plot. I loved how this one went down. I enjoyed it so much!

Overall: Loved it! Oh Logan, how I love thee. This one was awesome. I can’t wait until the next one!

Cover: Like it! The girl fits perfectly.
