Summary: It all began with a ruined elixir and an accidental bolt of lightning…

Iolanthe Seabourne is the greatest elemental mage of her generation—or so she's being told. The one prophesied for years to be the savior of The Realm. It is her duty and destiny to face and defeat the Bane, the greatest mage tyrant the world has ever known. A suicide task for anyone let alone a sixteen-year-old girl with no training, facing a prophecy that foretells a fiery clash to the death.

Prince Titus of Elberon has sworn to protect Iolanthe at all costs but he's also a powerful mage committed to obliterating the Bane to avenge the death of his family—even if he must sacrifice both Iolanthe and himself to achieve his goal.

But Titus makes the terrifying mistake of falling in love with the girl who should have been only a means to an end. Now, with the servants of the Bane closing in, he must choose between his mission and her life.

My Thoughts:  Hmm, I had a lot of trouble getting into The Burning Sky.  And it took me over a week to read it, which is unusual for me.

We are introduced to Iolanthe who is a powerful elemental mage. But she isn’t really aware of this, until now. More powerful than she thought. We also meet The Prince. Prince Titus! The two meet unexpectedly and their fates are intertwined from there.

Titus has a mission; a goal. To kill the Bane. Iolanthe just wants to be left alone. She isn’t too fond of his plan; destiny.  The two get thrown together and have to figure things out and fast. While in the process, she has to go to a boarding school with him and pretend to be a boy. He has this whole plan set up. Its pretty amazing how well planned this is and how mature he is about it.

I had a lot of trouble getting through this one at first. At least the first half of the book but then it flowed nicely from there. I am one of these people who try to finish books, I don’t like to stop. So I am glad I finished this one. It was pretty cool once I got where I needed to be.

A lot goes on. I liked the characters and the plot was interesting. I did finish this one so it was a plus. Maybe it just felt too long or maybe I just wasn't in the mood but I didn’t love this one as much as I hoped.

Overall: Will I read the next in the series? Yep! But it was more of a 3.5 cupcake rating for me. Maybe I don’t read enough fantasy books. That is what this one felt like. I probably should try to read more and compare them. While I did enjoy it, I didn’t love it. I’d recommend it to people but it just wasn't one of my favorites. Maybe I’ll enjoy the second one more. I’ll be reading it for sure.  This book was still a good one, just not the perfect one for me.

Cover: Like it! Its pretty magical.

Same thing for me-it took me way too long to read this book though I did really like it.

I actually really enjoyed this one! I just wanted to keep reading it. Fantasy and contemps have been my favorites lately.
